Hua Uses Eleventh-Hour Heroics to Avoid Exile at Tenmile
The Snake River Manufacturing Kayak Fishing Northwest Tournament Series, presented by Diamond Parking & Self Storage, made an appearance at Tenmile Lakes for Event 2 of the 2026 season — and the legendary southern Oregon fishery did not disappoint.
After a stretch of unusual weather had left anglers guessing in practice, tournament day delivered a genuine gift. The bass were active, the bites were quality, and over the course of eight hours, 59 competitors produced one of the most dramatic finishes the tour has seen. The leaderboard flipped multiple times all day and especially in the final hour, the lead changed hands with minutes remaining, and when the dust settled, the reigning Angler of the Year had proven exactly why he wears that title.
Early Fireworks
The morning started with a bang. Michael Jarvis (Yamhill, OR) set a blistering pace, putting four largemouth in the boat before 6:30 AM for a combined 60.25 inches — a performance that briefly had the field wondering if anyone could catch him. He wouldn’t hold the lead for long, but his work ethic would pay dividends all day.
Just minutes later, Eddie French (Camas, WA) delivered the fish of the tournament: a 21.00-inch largemouth caught at 6:47 AM, a post-spawn female with the battered tail to prove it. It was the kind of fish that makes a field stop and stare, and it would stand as the biggest single fish of the day from first submission to last.
JR Rowlands (Winlock, WA) was the first to put a full limit on the board, taking the lead just after 7 AM with a 5-fish bag of 76.50 inches anchored by a 17.75-inch kicker. Anthony Booth (Bandon, OR) — the 2024 OKBF Rookie of the Year — countered quickly, completing his limit by 7:30 AM to take the lead at 82.00 inches with an 18.25-inch kicker. Andrew Janke (Scappoose, OR) added further intrigue at 8:02 AM with a 20.50-inch largemouth that was barely post-spawn and still carrying serious weight.
McClure Seizes Control
Jason McClure (Eugene, OR) completed his limit at 8:28 AM to take the lead at 83.00 inches, edging Booth by a single inch. The two-time IKBF AOY Michael Mumford (Nampa, ID) answered immediately, uploading a full 5-fish limit of 83.50 inches at 8:45 AM to briefly seize the top spot. Then came one of the morning’s most stunning moments: Kevin Amaral (Seattle, WA), who had been invisible on TourneyX all morning, appeared from nowhere at 9:08 AM with a fully judged 5-fish limit of 84.50 inches uploaded all at once. He had been fishing — just not submitting.
McClure was not rattled. A 17.50-inch cull pushed him back to the top at 86.50 inches, and by the midmorning mark he had extended further with an 18.00-inch cull to reach 88.25 inches — a total that looked like it might be untouchable. Amaral kept the pressure on, culling his way to 87.25 inches. Just 1 inch separated them.
The Birthday Boy and the 50/50 Champ
Two of the day’s best storylines were unfolding quietly in the middle of the pack. Cody Allison (Salem, OR) — the two-time OKBF AOY, celebrating his birthday on the water — was relentlessly culling his way up the standings. A 17.50-inch fish at 9:50 AM pushed him into 4th. An 18.00-inch cull at 11:04 AM moved him to 85.25 inches. Birthday Boy Allison would ultimately finish 12th at 86.50 inches — not a bad way to spend a birthday.
Corey Carlile (Spokane, WA), the 2025 KFNW 50/50 Season Long Online Challenge champion, had spent the morning without a limit while the rest of the field built their bags. When he finally closed out his fifth fish at 9:56 AM, it was the start of a sustained charge. Carlile added a 17.50-inch cull, then a 17.00-inch cull, climbing from outside the top 6 all the way to 3rd at 87.00 inches before the day was done.
Jarvis, meanwhile, refused to fade. After his blazing start, he made clutch culls throughout the day — none bigger than the 18.25-inch fish at 10:18 AM that vaulted him from 7th to 3rd at 83.75 inches, and a follow-up 17.75-inch cull that pushed him to 86.00 inches. From first cast to last, Jarvis was one of the most active and consistent anglers on the water.
The Final Hour
With the field tightening and the leaderboard in constant flux, the final two hours produced the kind of drama that kayak tournament fishing was made for.
Scott Samson (Boise, ID) had been building quietly, adding a 19.00-inch largemouth to give himself two fish over 19 inches in a single bag. Rowlands — who had led early and fallen back — made a monster move at 11:00 AM with an 18.25-inch cull to climb back into 5th, then added an 18.00-inch cull later to push to 87.50 inches. Janke kept culling too, eventually reaching 86.50 inches and locking into a tie with Booth.
Then the reigning champion arrived.
Brandon Hua (Hillsboro, OR) had been carrying three giants all day — 20.25, 19.50, and 19.25 inches — but had spent hours stuck without a fourth fish. At 11:49 AM he added his fourth, and at 12:17 PM he completed his limit with an 18.25-inch largemouth to blast to 90.25 inches and seize the lead from McClure in one swoop. The 2022 and 2023 OKBF AOY and reigning KFNW champion had finally arrived, and the leaderboard shuddered.
Mumford was not done. The two-time IKBF AOY answered with an 18.25-inch cull of his own at 12:34 PM to push to 90.50 inches and briefly retake the lead. Andrew Larson (Donald, OR) added a 20.00-inch largemouth in the final stretch to rocket to 88.50 inches and into 4th place. And then — in the single most dramatic moment of the day — Jordan Dugger (Ephrata, WA), who had been fishing just off the leaderboard for hours, landed a 19.25-inch largemouth at 12:32 PM and a 19.50-inch fish at 1:41 PM to rocket from 16th place all the way to 3rd at 89.25 inches. It was a jaw-dropping finish, and for those who watched Event 1 at Potholes Reservoir, it had a familiar ring: Jordan Dugger pulled the same late-charge magic there, surging to 3rd in the final hour. Two events, two heroic comebacks. The man simply does not quit.
But the final word belonged to Hua. With Mumford holding the lead and time nearly expired, Hua culled his 13.00-inch fish — the anchor of his bag — for a 17.75-inch largemouth caught at 1:59 PM, a single minute before lines out and the Final Fish of the Day. CAN YOU SAY CLUTCH? His total: 95.00 inches. Bag: 20.25, 19.50, 19.25, 18.25, 17.75. He took 2nd at Potholes in Event 1. Now he has his win. The reigning AOY is climbing.
Storylines Worth Noting
Robert Motherwell (Seattle, WA) put together one of the quieter but more impressive late charges of the day, adding three fish in the final hour to complete his limit and finish 10th at 86.75 inches. Ryan Comer (Medford, OR) appeared essentially from nowhere, uploading a full limit late to finish 16th at 84.25 inches. Chris Williams (Olympia, WA) added a 19.25-inch largemouth to round out a strong day at 84.00 inches for 17th.
And then there was Rick Kelly (Grants Pass, OR). Deep in 40th place on the final leaderboard, Rick Kelly submitted a 20.75-inch largemouth at 12:55 PM — tying for the second-biggest fish of the entire day. The bass don’t check the standings before they bite.
Big fish honors went to French, whose 21.00-inch spawning female caught in the first hour of the tournament stood unchallenged all day. French finished with three fish at 59.00 inches — each one over 18.75 inches — but couldn’t find the bites to complete a limit. What might have been.
Tenmile Lakes delivered. The KFNW Tour moves on.

Tenmile Lakes is actually two lakes: North Tenmile Lake (to the north) and Tenmile Lake (to the south), connected by a 2,700 foot long canal. Tenmile Lakes or just Tenmile, is a gem among the many southern coastal lakes in Oregon. With a reputation for being the best largemouth bass lake in the state, many bass tournaments are scheduled at Tenmile, and the lake continues to produce quality fish, year after year. Largemouth are the only black bass species present. They were planted here in 1968-1969 in an effort to control the imported bluegill population, which had taken over the lake after being imported earlier in the 60s.
There are sand dunes that formed along the coast, which altered the region’s drainage patterns and led to a string of lakes at varied elevations within the Tenmile basin. The two lakes that comprise Tenmile are shallow and weedy, with an average depth of about 15 feet. They are natural lakes, with sand dunes There are willows along the shoreline, as well as wood laydowns, lily pads, grasses, and reeds. Forage includes crayfish, sunfish, yellow perch, black crappie, brown bullhead, and stocked rainbow trout.
Boundaries for this event feature approximately 1,984 acres of water and 45 miles of shoreline.

Hotels and Motels
There are two resorts on the lake with lodging options: Osprey Point RV Resort & Marina and Lakeshore Lodge. These locations offer rooms, RV camping, cabins, and tent camping as well. Note: Private ramps and private launches may be used during pre-fishing but are off-limits for tournament days. Launching from a private launch on tournament days will result in disqualification.
NOTE: Some of the accommodations at Osprey Point and Lakeshore include access to private docks or launches. Private docks or private launches may be used for pre-fishing (as long as you have permission) but are prohibited on tournament days. Use of a private dock or launch on tournament days will result in disqualification.
In nearby Lakeside is the Seadrift Motel & RV. The Seadrift is a 7-minute drive to Osprey Point.
Most of the other hotels and motels will be found in Reedsport, Coos Bay, or Winchester Bay about 15-30 minutes drive to Osprey Point (other launches may take longer).
