Tenmile Lakes Throwdown: High Winds and One Wild Ride to the Top!

86 anglers hit Tenmile Lakes in a no-holds-barred battle — and this one was a barn-burner from the first cast!

The day started with glassy calm waters and mild skies with a short shower, but don’t let the peaceful morning fool you. By late morning, the wind had shifted into high gear, ripping across the lake at 20–30 mph and turning open water into a white-knuckle arena of grit, skill, and serious boat control.

The bite was hot early. Brandon Hua and Elijah O’Brien came out of the gate swinging — both bagging full limits within the first hour and setting a blistering pace. The lead changed hands more times than a ripped Senko, with anglers jockeying for position as the wind howled and the pressure mounted.

Jakob Jarvis set the bar high in the first 30 minutes with what turned out to be an unbeatable 20.75 inch largemouth (his first fish) that ended up taking the Big Bass Buy-In. And then, as the clock struck noon, Jakob Jarvis made his final move. He capped off his hammer of a bag with an 18.5 inch fish, bringing him to 94.75 inches of green-backed greatness — that put him firmly in the top spot. With the wind in his face and challengers nipping at his heels, Jarvis dug in and held the line.

By day’s end, he stood alone atop the leaderboard—a wind-whipped warrior and the undisputed champion of a wild day on Tenmile.

And in true Tenmile tradition, Jarvis didn’t just win on the water—he carried the torch passed down by 2023 Tenmile winner Mason Meredith, belting out karaoke at Osprey Point Pub N Pizza & More on Friday night before storming to victory the next day…perhaps just a little worse for wear. Coincidence? Secret sauce? A superstition in the making? Time will tell—but for now, the legend lives on.

KFNW Tour Event 1 - Tenmile Lakes
Tenmile Lake
Tenmile Lake beside Lakeside Oregon.

Tenmile Lakes is actually two lakes: North Tenmile Lake (to the north) and Tenmile Lake (to the south), connected by a 2,700 foot long canal. Tenmile Lakes or just Tenmile, is a gem among the many southern coastal lakes in Oregon. With a reputation for being the best largemouth bass lake in the state, many bass tournaments are scheduled at Tenmile, and the lake continues to produce quality fish, year after year. Largemouth are the only black bass species present. They were planted here in 1968-1969 in an effort to control the imported bluegill population, which had taken over the lake after being imported earlier in the 60s.

There are sand dunes that formed along the coast, which altered the region’s drainage patterns and led to a string of lakes at varied elevations within the Tenmile basin. The two lakes that comprise Tenmile are shallow and weedy, with an average depth of about 15 feet. They are natural lakes, with sand dunes There are willows along the shoreline, as well as wood laydowns, lily pads, grasses, and reeds. Forage includes crayfish, sunfish, yellow perch, black crappie, brown bullhead, and stocked rainbow trout.

Boundaries for this event feature approximately 1,984 acres of water and 45 miles of shoreline.
