KFNW Tour Event 1 - Tenmile Lakes

Tenmile Lake
Tenmile Lake beside Lakeside Oregon.

Tenmile Lakes is actually two lakes: North Tenmile Lake (to the north) and Tenmile Lake (to the south), connected by a 2,700 foot long canal. Tenmile Lakes or just Tenmile, is a gem among the many southern coastal lakes in Oregon. With a reputation for being the best largemouth bass lake in the state, many bass tournaments are scheduled at Tenmile, and the lake continues to produce quality fish, year after year. Largemouth are the only black bass species present. They were planted here in 1968-1969 in an effort to control the imported bluegill population, which had taken over the lake after being imported earlier in the 60s.

There are sand dunes that formed along the coast, which altered the region’s drainage patterns and led to a string of lakes at varied elevations within the Tenmile basin. The two lakes that comprise Tenmile are shallow and weedy, with an average depth of about 15 feet. They are natural lakes, with sand dunes There are willows along the shoreline, as well as wood laydowns, lily pads, grasses, and reeds. Forage includes crayfish, sunfish, yellow perch, black crappie, brown bullhead, and stocked rainbow trout.

Boundaries for this event feature approximately 1,984 acres of water and 45 miles of shoreline.
