Final Standings
The 2025 KFNW Kayak Bass Classic at Potholes Reservoir
The 2025 Kayak Bass Classic brought twenty-three of the Northwest’s top anglers to Potholes Reservoir, Washington for a two-day championship showdown. Over the weekend, 23 competitors submitted an impressive 325 fish, a mix of chunky largemouth and bronzeback smallmouth. Conditions were cool and drizzly both mornings, the wind was brutal on Day 1, but slowed to manageable winds on Day 2, and a bite that never really quit.
From the very first casts in the dark, it was clear this Classic would be a slugfest. Brandon Hua (Hillsboro, OR) and Jordan Dugger (Ephrata, WA) wasted no time, both posting early largemouth in the opening ten minutes. Lacey Dugger (Wenatchee, WA) logged the first smallmouth of the event, but largemouth dominated the leaderboard about three-to-one throughout the day.
Chris Williams (Olympia, WA) set an early tone with twin 17-inch smallmouth, but Hua soon went on a run, stacking three 17.75-inch largemouth to grab the lead. By mid-morning, the leaderboard started to light up. Trey Potts (Waitsburg, WA) landed an 18.75-inch largemouth, only to be topped minutes later by Geoff Linson (Shelton, WA) with an 18.25. Then came a bomb—Shaun Soule (Yelm, WA) posted a 20.5-inch giant, the biggest bass of the weekend and a fish that would later claim Big Bass honors. That kicker vaulted Soule into first with 79.75 inches, edging past Hua’s steady climb.
As the day progressed, Hua’s consistency paid off. By the close of Day 1, he had built an 89.5-inch limit featuring an 18.75, three 17.75s, and a 17.5—enough to retake the lead and finish the day on top. Soule held strong in second after his early 20.5-inch giant. Then, just an hour before lines out, Dan Walker (Seattle, WA) came in under the wire with an 18.75-inch largemouth uploaded at 1:30 p.m., bumping him into third place for the day. Richard Childs (Albany, OR) landed an 18.75-inch smallmouth that was caught early, but submitted right near the end of the day. That proved to be the big the biggest smallie of the tournament.

- Shaun Soule – 89.25″
- Dan Walker – 86.25″

Day 2: The Showdown
Two anglers bowed out overnight, leaving twenty-one to chase the crown. The bite came fast and furious early, with more than seventy fish posted by 8 a.m. Walker came out swinging, landing a 20.25-inch largemouth within minutes—setting the tone for his day and the event.
Jim Cary (Spokane, WA) posted the first smallmouth of the day—a 17.75-inch bronzeback, the biggest smallie of the tournament. By 8:30 a.m., nine anglers already had full limits on the board. Walker led early with 85.5 inches for Day 2, followed by Dugger, Hua, Potts, and Linson. Combining totals from both days, Walker and Hua were separated by less than three inches heading into the final stretch.
Around 9:30, the leaderboard exploded. Soule went on a tear, putting up an 18.5 and several solid upgrades to jump back into second overall. Robert Motherwell (Seattle, WA) stormed onto the scene with a flurry of catches—four fish in thirty minutes, all quality—then capped his run with a 19.5-inch largemouth that gave him the biggest single-day total of the event at 90.5 inches.
As the final hours ticked down, Andrew Janke (Scappoose, OR) and Williams made key late uploads to climb the standings. Cary kept his steady pace, finishing strong with 83.25 for Day 2 and 167.5 overall—just enough to secure fifth place in a tightly packed field.
When the standings locked, Walker managed to hold off the field and claim the 2025 Classic title. His 91.5 inch on Day 2 was the best bag of the entire event.

October 11-12, 2024 – Potholes Reservoir
The 2025 KFNW Kayak Bass Classic will be on Potholes Reservoir, near Moses Lake, Washington.
Renowned for both largemouth and smallmouth bass, Potholes offers exceptional fishing. Largemouths over 7 lbs aren’t uncommon, and the maze of backwaters, dunes, and submerged structure creates ideal habitat year-round. Formed by glacial floods and later shaped by irrigation from O’Sullivan Dam, the reservoir’s patchwork of islands, potholes, and sand dunes creates a one-of-a-kind fishing environment. It’s part of Washington’s dramatic scabland geology, featuring basalt cliffs and marshy coves. Potholes Reservoir is a top-tier destination for bass fishing, offering a mix of trophy potential and striking, flood-carved scenery unlike anywhere else in the Pacific Northwest.
